Design Automation Evangelist Takes a Break

As most of my family, friends, colleagues and associates will testify....  I love my job.

I love meeting resellers, visiting companies around the world and discussing ways that they can make good use of automation software and techniques such as DriveWorks.

Last week I packed my bag and hopped on a plane again but this time it was not work - it was VACATION.

I spent a fabulous week relaxing by this pool, breathing in the pure thyme and pine tree scented air looking out into the Aegean..... and I very nearly didn't come back....

 
But of course I did .... and I'm hot on the Design Automation mission again :)

DriveWorks World - The Movie .... Filming

With the venue for SolidWorks World this year being so close to Hollywood and with James Cameron as the keynote speaker we decided to inject a little star quality in to DriveWorks World.

Here are two of our stars - Bill Taylor and Jeremy Regnerus of SolidWorks learning their lines and being filmed prior to the movie. Thanks guys - can't wait to post the out-takes to my blog too!

100th DriveWorks Reseller

We have reached the 100 mark!  

AlfaSolid of Greece are the 100th DriveWorks Reseller to sign up to provide Design Automation for their customers and prospects. Based in Athens,  and with customers across the Greek mainland we were delighted to welcome Dimitri Manolis and his team to the DriveWorks community. (I think there may be a few volunteers amongst the DriveWorks staff offering to go out to do their Training and Certification - me included!)

AlfaSolid a SolidWorks Reseller since 2006, join the DriveWorks channel which has been growing steadily over the last 8 years. We now have over 35 resellers in the US and Canada,  several across the UK and Europe, including Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Czech Republic and France..... and of course the emerging markets of India, Hong Kong and Singapore. Then there's Intercad. serving the markets of Australia and New Zealand.

And so to Brisbane

It was great to meet the Brisbane InterCad team - and someone managed to take LOTS of photos - thanks Melinda.

  

The Intercad Innovation day was also a day of trailers.... Ian had just uploaded the new DriveWorksXpress "Design a Guard Rail for a Trailer" files and example  to the DriveWorksXpress site that day ..... and so I was keen to show the wholed story of automate something simple, add to it and who knows how far you will get - in other words from a trailer guard rail to a full trailer if you want.

This naturally led to a full DriveWorks demonstration of a truck, and I am pleased to say that I now know the maximum height specification for a truck in Australia - 4.3metres. I didn't know that before so now we can add this to the rules in the project. It's information like this that helps us explain the value of a being able to incorporate rules into DriveWorks. Now there will be no danger of me demonstrating over-size trucks that get stuck under bridges!!! 

   

DriveWorks on Tour for SolidWorks Rollouts - Christchurch - NZ

I had hoped to catch the full What's New in SolidWorks 2009? presentation in Christchurch but a spot of dense fog meant I flew the length and breadth of New Zealand (from Auckland to Queenstown) and back to Christchurch....  before meeting up with the Intercad team.

Anyway when I finally landed and caught up with the Intercad guys at the Innovation Day I was really impressed with some of the new features in SolidWorks - especially the stuff for Sheetmetal.

Of course I was delighted to see so many people had signed up for the session on Design Automation.
